Denmark: Yes to the agreement
Federal President of Food Allied Workers' Union Ole Wehlast welcomes the marked yes to the Agreement 2010 - 2012.
"I am proud proud of our members. We have the absolute highest turnout, and it's nice to see that our members take the time to express their opinion to the result which has been presented to them" says Ole Wehlast.
78% have left their ticked yes. I take it as a clear commitment to the committees negotiating the collective agreement.
We had some historically difficult negotiations with our counterpart, which submitted completely unreasonable ultimatums. I am therefore pleased to note that our members now have the same ratio as other workers. states Ole Wehlast.
The historically difficult negotiations were not made easier by the employers. Just days after the joint proposal was released, the CEO of Danish Crown Keld Johannesen announced the dismissal of nearly 600 employees. On TV, he did not hide his opinion and passed the direct responsibility for future layoffs on the joint proposal, arguing that it was costly to continue the group. He accused NNF negotiators of acting irresponsibly.
Ole Wehlast reacted “I still think that it's Kjeld Johannesen, who has run from his managerial responsibilities and have tried to take the staff hostage for its reduction plan. But I can to my delight found that employees continue to listen more to their union than to their employer".
