Approximately 10,000 Finnish workers in engineering, professional and managerial positions in the technology industry went on strike on Tuesday 2nd November. The main reason is the employer’s refusal to grant this category of worker the same wage increase as stipulated in the framework agreement negotiated and signed a week ago by the Finnish Metalworkers’ Federation, Metalli, and the Salaried Employees’ Union, PRO.
A meeting will be held next Sunday between the parties concerned and the governmental “National Conciliator”. Should no satisfactory solution be found, the strike action will be extended to 30 other companies, including NOKIA.
